International Journal of Population Studies

Call for papers for its inaugural issue

It is our pleasure to announce that the International Journal of Population Studies (IJPS) is open for submissions in the field of population studies for its inaugural issue, which is scheduled to launch by the end of 2015.

IJPS is a new open access, multidisciplinary journal that publishes high quality original research and timely reviews of recent advances and emerging issues in population processes; dynamics of fertility, mortality, and migration; and linkages with socioeconomic and environmental change across time, space, and cultures.

The range of the journal's coverage includes substantive empirical analyses, theoretical work, methodology, qualitative studies, policy analyses, and applied research. While it focuses on formal and applied demography, it also covers, but is not limited to, a broad range of disciplines: aging studies, anthropology, business and marketing, behavioral sciences, economics, environmental sciences, geography, history, psychology, public health, politics, sociology, and statistics.

IJPS aims to provide a platform for researchers worldwide to promote and share cutting-edge knowledge and advances in different areas of population research. It publishes the following types of articles: original research, research reviews, technical research notes, perspectives, letters to the editor, and book reviews that address demographic and population-related issues.

Original research papers should showcase innovative findings that make significant theoretical and/or methodological contributions to knowledge in the field of population studies by using unique theoretical and methodological approaches. These papers should provide a clear rationale for the study, a review of the existing literature, followed by data sources and research methodology, a presentation of major findings, and a discussion of the findings in relation to existing knowledge (a maximum of 7,000 words). Research reviews are carefully constructed articles that conceptualize research themes, analyze previous findings with a meta analytical approach, advance the understanding of the field, and identify and develop directions for future research (a maximum of 6,000 words). Technical research notes provide researchers a forum to raise and discuss unsolved research issues in population studies (a maximum of 4,000 words).

All other submission types are considered occasionally. Perspectives should highlight recent interesting findings and explain potential interdisciplinary significance, by starting with a brief paragraph stating the problem addressed and concluding with the major finding of the report (a maximum of 1,000 words). Comments regarding articles published in this Journal should be sent as Letter to the Editor. When a published article is subjected to comment/criticism, the authors of that article are invited to write a reply. Comments regarding recently published books should be sent as Book Reviews. These two types of comments should not exceed 800 words.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published, nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed through a double-blind, rigorous peer review process. All manuscripts must be written in English. Before you start to prepare your paper, please read the Author Guidelines. All papers must be submitted online. To submit a paper, please go to the Online Submission System.

To submit a paper for consideration in the inaugural issue, please submit by September 15,2015. Papers submitted after that date will be considered for subsequent issues. All papers submitted by October 31, 2015, will have the page charge fee waived (US$300 per paper) if they are accepted.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and we look forward to your contribution to the Journal. We would also appreciate it if you kindly forward this message to your colleagues or friends within your institute or network.

We look forward to your submission,
